Death to submission fees

Our philosophy

We want to remove as many barriers as possible between writers and readers, and this means doing away with funding sourced from the writers themselves.

In an attempt to discover how a small press might sustain itself without submission fees, we are entirely funded by our path from purgatory subscriptions, the occasional donation or grant, and book sales.

Submission info & Guidelines

We’re open for submissions— sort of!

We’re just getting started, and we will have a limited capacity for the amount of books we can publish in a year. We foresee that our first publications will be solicitation based— HOWEVER! We always are open to proposals of public domain archival work, books for republication, and new works of translations.

We ask that you send us samples of your proposed work (up to 15 pages). If we’re interested in publishing, we will reach out in 2- 3 months to ask for more proposal details, a copy of your previously published manuscript, or your manuscript in translation. If your work isn’t selected for publication, we ask that you wait a year before resubmitting.

Send submissions as a pdf to purgatoryvalley@gmail.com. Please use “SUBMISSION: Title” as the subject line and include a brief cover letter and bio.
